The sun is shining

April 10, 2010

What a glorious Sheffield day it has been. I spent the morning eating breakfast in the sun in a Nether Edge garden, then went leafletting for the Socialist Campaign to Stop the Tories and Fascists outside the Town Hall. We also came across some Conservatives (obviously gave them short shrift!), a campaign to support Iranian prisoners of war for their release, and Love Music, Hate Racism. After that I bumped into a friend on Ecclesall Road and had a latte in the sun outside the front of Nonnas restaurant. Most of the time I complain about the posers that sit on those front benches, but it was actually quite lovely sitting there and seeing people we knew continually walking past.

Unfortunately later on a very smartly dressed woman from a born again Christian church came up and very loudly started preaching to us and all the other Nonnas’ posers, and even the Christian friends I was sitting with weren’t particularly impressed, likening it to being wolf-whistled at by a lairy builder. I can see her point!

I popped over to Cocoa, which is a chocaholic’s fantasy, but being not the biggest fan of chocolate myself, I felt a little overwhelmed. I got some pralines which have been nibbled at slowly…

So a sunny day well spent in Sheffield. How did you all spend yours?

I too was on Ecclesall Road on Saturday – sheltering from the sweltering heat with a glass of wine in Cafe Rouge. The same shouty Christian stuck her head through the window and started shouting the odds at us. I dread to think what happened when she got to ‘Champs’.
